As the world is facing the on-going process of globalisation, the issue of national identity still remains a contentious one and stirs a heated debate among the public.
On the one hand, the loss of some national values as well as traditions is inevitable. In present times, when the saying that money makes the world go round is commonly expressed, some people carry about economical profits rather than their cultural heritage. That particular group of people perceive the globalisation as a process, which gives more advantages than drawbacks.
On the other hand, a large group of people feel shattered and in some way lonely, being deprived of their culture. Some experts say that forcing people to use the same language, the same money and to appreciate the same cultural standards may have gruesome consequences. First of all, the gap between rich and poor will widen. Secondly, fundamentalist attitudes will be on the rise. Last but not least, the loss of national identity may lead to a state, when people are deprived of any values.
Giving one simple answer for the above mentioned issues is virtually impossible. Therefore we should bear in mind that preserving national heritage is of paramount importance, and at the same time, we should be able to profit from the globalisation process. All in all, it should be emphasized that we can always enhance global culture with our national traditions, in consequence we should not fear so much about dying out of our culture.
